Photo of the Week
November 2, 2008

Another SUPER photo taken by Perry Truxton while flying over the Thatcher Ferry or later known as Bridge of the Americas when the last links were being put in to connect the arch structure that would eventually hold up the cable suspended road-way.  This is truly a historical photo!  I scanned this from Perry's 35mm slide and enlarged it to study different things.  Most noteworthy is that you can see the Thatcher Ferry below with the ferry boat loaded with cars to make a cross canal transit.  Dock 6 and 7 (where my Dad worked for many years) is sending out oil slicks (mind you, not my Dad's fault).  The Balboa Shops and Balboa Dry Dock are in full operation unlike today with the harbor area being a container port.

There are some other super shots that Perry took of the bridge construction which I will be either posting as photo of the week or time permitting make a mini-presentation with all.

Thank you Perry for this great capture in time.
