Photo of the Week

A friend, Lance Wiskowski posted this photo recently on Facebook and when I saw it, so many memories came to mind. This photo was taken in the early hours of the day while passing under the Gamboa bridge in the early Chagres River fog. I remember so well all those mornings heading out to Gatun Lake to fish or visiting the island for the day or weekend, but the best trips to the lake were looking for old bottles and relics. There was/is lots of plunder left by the Canal Construction Days for collectors to hunt for. We hunted on the land and our favorite was SCUBA diving on the old towns and historic sites. We dove 85ft down to the Black Swamp one day and raised three sections of U Rail track from the original Panama 1855 railroad. The guy operating the boat is our good friend and fellow treasure hunter Doug Allen.

Those were the days. Long live our Canal Zone memories.
