Photo of the Week

We are still in Ancon this week, right next door to the building from last week. I have heard from more than one Ancon person that they didn't have a gym in Ancon. Well, they didn't like Balboa, Diablo, Gamboa, Gatun, Margarita, etc., but had what they called a play shelter that was part of the elementary school. The above photo was the old run-down play shelter in 1944. The side of the building and playground fence was only feet from 4th of July Avenue and the Panama and Canal Zone boarder. Those who walked on the sidewalk were brave. Later on in the 50s and after they demolished the Ancon Post Office, a new play shelter was built, but still wasn't a gym that the residents of Ancon could use on their own.
