Photo of the Week
Great old photo from the Warren H. Smith 35mm sides take in the 60s - 70s of a swim meet at Gamboa Pool. This hits home so much as I worked at the pool for many years and officiated at these same swim meets. It was a good life and lots of fun. I love that blue water. Long live our Canal Zone memories as they were back in the golden days!!! Now, not so good is what the old pool looks like today. Photo courtesy of my brother's photos he took in 2022. All the pretty blue water, the swimmers and the crowd. Even the roof of the grandstand is gone. So sad to see this, but that is the demise of the Canal Zone as we knew it. The tiered box at the right of the old diving platform is the stepped box that the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place swimmers would get on to receive their medals. I can't believe that awards platform box is still around. Many years of different color paint is evident .. white, green and yellow.
