Photo of the Week
August 24, 2003

1909 vintage photo of Bucyrus 100-ton, 5'0" gauge Wrecking Crane number 32 lifting Baldwin Locomotive 324 along the new Panama Railroad relocation line.  From what I have read, it appears that this was the only 100 ton Wrecking Crane that the ICC had in it's inventory.

I purchased this photo from what appears to be a private collection of four Wrecking Crane photos.  I will post the others in the near future.  Wrecking Cranes were very important in the construction days as there were many wrecks, derailments and slides.  These wrecking cranes were the means to get everything back on track.

Long live the history of Panama and our Canal Zone home.
