Loved looking at the old photos and sharing them with my children.
I was stationed in Panama from 1988 until I retired in 1995. My wife is from Arrijan where her large family still lives. I enjoyed the trip back through your photos. We always enjoy our trips back to Panama. The time before last 2002, we visited our house on Ft. Clayton, 316B. These are great memories. Thanks Again.
I am a Zonian from 1959-1977. I am enjoying this web site as I have never had the opportunity to return since leaving the C.Z in 1977.
I really enjoy your site. I was born in Colon in 1952 and lived in the Zone until my father retired in 1963. I hated having to leave Panama and my friends. Your pictures brought back a flood of memories from my boyhood. Thanks!
Que hermosos recuerdos vienen a mi memoria cada ves que visito este sitio. Felicitaciones nuevamenente!!!!
I was a resident of Fort Clayton (as an Army Sgt.), then a resident of Bella Vista in Panaman City until the riot of '64. After the riot, my wife and resided in Balboa because she was a teacher at Diablo Heights Jr. High (librarian, actually). This was from 1962-64. We were members of the Balboa Union Church. My wife sang in the choir. My first son, Joseph, was born at Gorgas Hospital on March 6, 1964. My wife went through extended labor. Maj. Gen.(ret) Frank A. Tobey was minister at Balboa Union Church. During the extended period of labor, he came to the hospital waiting room and stayed with me for 8-10 hours. There I was...a Sgt., sitting with a Maj. Gen. and we called each other by our first names. I really hated to see the Zone go to Panama. But fond memories help ease that discomfort. I remember the Christmas lights at Diablo Heights, Miraflores locks at night and sleeping in the bay at the ASA station at Fort Clayton and listening to the ships' horns. That and the rain made for good sleeping. Thanks for what you do here and allowing me to share my own recollections of the "Lost Paradise."
What a great time it was in Panama. I was with the 534 from 72-73.At the time I hated it, but now I think of it every day. To bad they gave it away, Jimmy C. never could do anything good for this country.
Es muy reconfortante la experiencia de visitar este grandioso site. Todos aquellos que tuvimos la suerte de haber vivido en CZ Panamá debemos estar eternamente agradecidois al autor del sitio por su encomiable labor. Muchas gracias y Felicitaciones mil!!!
