St. Pats Day
I taught 2nd and 4th grade at Ft Gulick Elementary school from 1972-1974. My name at the time was Lynne Austin. I would like to find a teacher who retired from the CZ schools as I am about to retire and want to find out if I have any retirement funds left the retirement program. I don't know what agency we paid into (was it federal, as I imagine? -or how to contact it). Also would like to know if any people I knew there (I lived in Coco Solo with my 2 sons, Matt and Hunt- age 10/12 at the time. This is a great website!
resident of Chepo and Chame 66-78. Looking for Canal Zone matches, or a Canal Zone license plate if anyone knows where I can locate these items? Gracias
I need photos Canal Zone.
Fine site! For a site dedicated to collecting and archiving stories about life in the CZ, please visit http://www.munsil.net/czarchives/czarchives.html Mike
Very nice site with great links. I spent four years in the canal zone during the fifties. We were there because my father was career military and we went wherever he went . I have vivid memories of Ft. Davis, Gulick Heights, the Canal and the jungle.
My mother was born in Ancon in about 1909. My grandfather worked for the railroad but I'm not sure in what capacity. Can anyone give me info on how to find employee records for the early 1900s?
Looking at all of your photos really brought back the memories. We lived in Gatun from '74 to '81 and then in Cardenas till '89. My children (Karl and Karla Kirschner) earned their B-badges at Gatun Pool under the watchful eyes of Louise Russon and looking at the photo of the pool made those days seem like yesterday. I especially enjoyed the pics of Christmas on the isthmus. When we first arrived in the zone, I couldn't understand why people left their Christmas lights up all year long... ;) Needless to say, we soon had our own patio lights strung up. But one of the funniest Christmas decorations I ever saw was in Gatun's New Town. Some folks got together and strung a line between their houses, across the street, and suspended a row boat from it containing none other than... Santa Claus with a fishing pole! Wonderful times! Thanks so much for keeping the memories alive!
Excellent site. From an old Zonian family, my brother Jim and I born & raised in CZ. My mom, Mildred, moved with to CZ in approx 1932 with her family, True. My father James (Webb) moved there in 1925 with his folks. Various and sundry uncles, cousins, etc. would be known to many of you. Definitely making the party in FL this year as its my 30th BHS reunion.
Top of the morning to you Uncle Meat! It is a beautiful dry season day and the northerlies are blowing in from across the Caribbean. Jill and I are both working the passenger liners and our kayak the the lower Chagres business. When you coming home?
