Wonderful web site I love the pictures and will return many times to look at them. I was working on the Mindi when we were dredging at Gorgona island and I remember picking up bottles out of the water. and at the discharge of the pipe line. What a life in the Zone.

Bill; Really enjoyed the cybermuseum! Particularly the Panama Canal food product wrappers and bottles. Am anxiously awaiting some current photos of the zone. Hope you get your scanner going and get them on the site soon. Having left the zone in 1971, but for a few trips back for the summer, Christmas vacation, etc., I am really yearning to see some photos of some of town sites and neighborhoods. A job well done, Bill. I haven't had a chance to read all of your site yet (3/26/98) but as I get time, I will. What you have done is to build a site that truly brings back visually and with words, the essence of the Canal Zone. Since it is my birthplace too (Panama City, that is) I have many good memories always circulating through my mind. In my aging years, that takes a prominent place in my quiet times when I remember a lifetime of memories, both good and bad. My grandfather was an original employee at the beginning of the Canal (employee #313) so my heritage goes aways back. Keep up your effort. It will be enjoyed by many for many years. Dick Holt

Bill, Really a nice page you have here. I'm really anxious to see the photos that are in the making. I'm a photo nut and have created an album of over 200 pic's so far from quite a few of the Zonians contributions. When I was stationed at Fort Davis in 64 to 66 I took quite a few photos of the Atlantic side and of different things in route to Rio Hato and in Rio Hato. Now all I have to do is get a scanner so I can add those photos to the album. Keep up the good work you've been doing, I like the input you put in on a lot of topics.

Great web page! I really like the pictures of the police/security badges. My father was a guard on the Atlantic side. On a personal note, I am a volunteer fireman in my town and was wondering if you might know how to get a current Panama Canal Fire Dept. patch or any old ones to put in our dept. collection. Can't wait to visit this site again.

Bill! I just blew 2 hours of my Saturday! I really enjoyed it. The pics of the bottle pits took me back to some very enjoyable times. Still can't figure what was so enjoyable about sitting in the hot sun, caked with dirt and grinning from ear to ear over each find. Your site encouraged me to dig out our old photo albums and relive a simpler life. My wife's gonna kill you! She's agreed to let me upgrade the digital camera, now I've got to wheedle enough spare pocket change out of her for a good scanner too! One of these weekends, I'll dig out some of the treasures I've collected and photograph them for the "Cyber Museum". I'll be back often.
