FANTASTIC site. The photos bring back a lot of memories (I'm sure you get that quite a bit). Please keep up the good job. Tony Portela, Balboa High Class of '90
I am in search of my family history and would love any help that I can get. My grandfather, James Thomas Johnson was born in Ancon, Canal Zone in 1917. My great grandfather, James John Johnson worked on the canal for several years. I would like to know how to go about getting information about these two men...ie birth certs, work history...anything actually!! My mother has tried to get information as well but has not been given anything substanial. Please e-mail me a shard@aa.net if you have any suggestions on where I can start looking. Thank You!
Your web site brought back a lot of memories. The photograph with the 299 on the deck of the Crane HERCULES, that is something I`ll always remember, because I was part of it. I was working on the crane as a winchman, I also have a photograph of the 299, with me sitting in the cab.
You have done a great job of bringing back memories of "home". I was born and raised in the Canal Zone, graduating from CHS in 1961. My grandfather, Leonard T. Butz, worked on the construction of the Canal, retiring in 1948. I do believe that I have some pictures that you may want to use.
Albrook 1962-1965 An interesting time in the Zone. Son born at Gorgas. Advisor to Explorer Scouts. We put 4 boats in the Ocean to Ocean. Great time-rough looking dugouts then. Enjoyed people and experiences
Thank you very much for all your efforts! As an Air Force Member I was stationed at Howard AFB from 1993-1997, and lived at Albrook AFS. My wife Edie was a teacher a Balboa H.S. We truly enjoyed our time in Panama, espeacially the Cayuco Race! Your web page has bruaght back many great memories. THANKS again
Nice WEB Site, lots of great memories. Grew up in Margarita. Class of 1980, CHS. Want to hear from other 1980 CHS Graduates.
I just resently found this web site, and it has brought some good memories back from my pass,Thanks keep the good work up.
Just taking a look around. Great site for a former Zonian to get info. Well done
GREAT site ....I know it will grow. Would like to hear from friends. Great years when I was at BHS and then Registrar at PCC.
I visited Gamboa in grade school when our Margarita teams would play the Gamboa teams. We were in way over our heads, but it was always such a thrill to be able to play the different sports in such a beautiful town with the best sport facilities. The pictures of Gamboa have got to be bittersweet for those of you who grew up there. I really enjoyed them.
Whappin' you? Hope some of you are enjoying sunshine and greenery where you are. It is cold and gray here in Germany ds
Cool web site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bill, What an incredible web site. Everyone who lived in the Zone should find something here that will remind them how wonderful it was to have lived there. To any and all who read this and either knew me from the BHS Class of 1970 or if you just want to say hello, do so. Thanks again. See you soon. Cheers, Scott.
Learned from another zonian about this site - I'm glad Mr. McLaughlin is involved in this - I was young when I understood from others that you were a big part of the Zone and am glad that you were there for us....I graduated from BHS 1983 and am proud of it. Thanks for letting us travel through our youth of the most beautiful sites in the world....that we all took for granted until we grew up and realized what we really had..I'm proud to be a Zonian and am looking forward to visit this site more often. Believe me my children and their children will know about their heritage....This site was a great idea!!!!!
Thanks for putting up a great site! I'm glad that someone had the foresight to hang on to the the common and transient items I remember from my childhood (milk bottles, bread wrappers, tags, tickets, etc.)- These are really the things that bring the memories back! I really miss the Zone, but my memories of growing up there give me a sense of history and happiness that few folks from the States will ever know-
Peter
Great site! My couple of years in Panama were very enjoyable. I lived on Ft.Amador from 90-92 and attended Curundu and Balboa, and I would have been in the class of 94. If there's anyone out there from my class/neighborhood I'd like to hear from you!
