The ever sinking breakwater. This is the section of the causeway that gave engineers a fit during it's construction. They couldn't find bed rock and the spoil that was dumped here kept sinking. The story goes that they brought out all kinds of old derelict equipment and dumped it in this area with hopes of it giving a firmer base. It is evident today that they succeeded as our causeway has stood firm all these years. The Islands sit in the distance awaiting their new land bridge. |
