September 2000
I think it is great that you guys have a place to keep in touch with each other. I hope CHS 70 will do the same. I enjoyed the time I spent with you guys at the 2000 reunion. Balboa is OK with me!!! It only took me 30 years to be able to say that, even though I was born and lived on the pacific side for the first 7 years of my life!!
Here is the latest on Fred Tienken from his sister Evelyn Hi everybody! I sure am glad to see ya'll are coming out to play again! I thought there for a while, that some of you had found a new playground! :-) Just wanted to let you know, that Fred is doing better, tho still in considerable pain. I was in Orlando for 4 days & every morning, at 6 am, I would go to Rehab and take him fishing! (There is a small lake out back.) He will be there for a few more weeks, until his house is renovated for wheelchair access. If you would like to call him, the # is 407-658-2046, ext 422. It is a very depressing place what with all the geriatrics, cancer & alzheimer patients, so if can find it in you hearts to send him a card or call him, it would bring a ray of sunshine into that byways heart! thanks again for all your support!
BILL!!!!! The latest pictures look wonderful! Thanks for burning those other pictures of me...hehehehe
Bill: Thanks for posting the pics. I know it was a lot of work; you did a great job! I received a very nice thank you card from Jacque Hunt Arias for the reunion pic we sent her. She sounded great and said she was finished with her chemo & radiation. I know she would love to hear from everyone, so please drop her a note. I have been having major computer problems-I am waiting for Jac to finish her current class so she can build me a new one! By the way, everybody needs to send Jac a pat on the back-she just finished her computer school!!! Yeah Jacque!!! I, on the other hand, still believe that Bill Gates is the anti-christ! Anyway, looking at the pics reminded me how very lucky we are to have each other-that said, lets do all we can to stay in touch.
Although I'm BHS '61, I know many of you. Just ask Steve Nehring and Johnny H...they were original "Rats" in the zone, along with CJ, and Larry, who helped my brother, Lewis build the famous party place at the beaches called Punta Raton. I'm sure many of you have fond part memories of brother Lewie's place. We all miss him a lot. Steve, Larry, and Johnny were also my CZ-Apollo 11 spacesuit subjects in Dec. '69, when I brought a Neil Armstrong training suit to the zone from Houston for show & tell. Maybe some of you saw all the space stuff, gear and pictures in the Civil Affairs bldg., then at the Admin. bldg Rotunda, & on SCN-TV. Got lucky and gave Gov.Leber & his exec.staff a briefing. Lots of cool pictures by off.CZ photographer, Art Pollard. Your classmates were first-class test subjects/models. Thanks to some of you who came by my vendor's booth at Tampa and bought a few CZ Ts, and saw all those bright neon bar lites on the wall. Lots of giggles and pointing when they saw the "Push Button sign! Congratulations on your 30 BHS anny...my 40th is next yr. in Orlando! For those who couldn't get by, or who don't know about my CZ stuff, please see the Ts on czbrats: http://www.czbrats.com/Com/JB/bateman.htm There is an 8th T not shown...DDT JEEP & TRUCK CHASE TEAM MEMBER. More stuff will be up soon. For any Jacksonville area residents, there is a semi-annual picnic, next on on Oct.14, 11-4 pm, good food and Lucho music! BYOB allowed! It's at the NASJAX SUPPLY CENTER. After reading some of your postings, your class is very, very close, more than most. I have talked to several of you on the net and met a few in Tampa, and hope to meet more of you in Orlando. I think I gonna ignore my 40th...what's in a number, right? Keep up the fine work here. Oh, I forgot to mention, I know many of you guys from the summers at the BHS GYM, as I was a CZC student-aid from '62-'64, and Diablo JHS lunch room monitor in '63ish. I worked with fellow classmate, Tom Mallia. I remember little Eddie Hussem, and his little sister, Lorie and all the Hunt family. Glad to hear Jacque is doing so well and recovering nicely. I know her hubby, Teddy well too. His dad, Dr. Teddy told my pretty new wife, Pam in '66 we were going to have a son in April'67...now that son, Kevin, 33, is married in Peoria, Ill, with 3 sons, 3,8, & 13. I had a nice talk with Mrs. Hunt in Tampa and she looks great. Many of the Hunt kids came by, I couldn't keep them straight...Joey & Darleen's kids. All the best to all your class and enjoy your future reunions. My first one was in '89, then a scarry one, the 30th, then again in '98, & 2000, and soon the big 40th! Yipes! Steve and Johnny...maybe if you can find those Apollo 11 CZ photos, we can put them up somewhere, maybe here.
I enjoyed visiting even tho I am CHS '70! I feel we are all still family. Thanks for letting me in!!
Here is the latest on Fred...I take it he is home again!

Bill, What are the PCS's plans for carnavalito? When will the event take place? Some of us living in the tundra are looking forward for an excuse to enjoy FL in Feb. Usually I spend Xmas in Orlando, but probably not in 2000.Let me know what you hear. Thanks for the pix...they are very interesting to say the least.
Carnivalito is scheduled for Feb 3, 2001 at the Admiral Inn within walking distance of beautiful Cypress Gardens in beautiful Winter Haven, Florida. Price of the hotel rooms are $62.90 plus tax. Cost for the dinner dance and entertainment will be announced soon-plan to attend, it will be a blast! For those of you non-Floridians, Winter Haven is approx 40 mins from downtown Orlando. Also, for those of you who have not received their Canal Record, the BHS Class of 1970 had the BIGGEST class reunion at the 2000 Reunion! We even outdid the "youngsters" from 80 & 90! Way to go guys!!
